FWA’s 32nd Annual Education Conference which took place on June 2-3, 2022, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando was a smashing success by all accounts.  Not only did the conference set attendance records, but the educational presentations were exceptional with well-prepared, informative, and entertaining speakers.  FWA’s outstanding group of sponsors were on hand to network and promote the many and varied ways that they can be helpful, if not essential, to our clients and law practices.  (For those of you who were not able to attend please see the list of current sponsors below and click on their logos to visit them and be sure to use their services.)

Matt Carrillo, the outgoing FWA President, was given heart-felt thanks and a standing ovation at the lunch on Thursday for his exceptional service in shepherding the FWA through another productive year which saw the six-year anniversary of the Miles and Castellanos decisions, the retirement of long time FWA Executive Direct Larry Gonzalez, and a quiet legislative session for Comp with no bills of concern passing.  The Executive Director position has passed to the capable hands of Karla Hart who has smoothly transitioned into the role without a hitch.  Matt passed the gavel to current President Michael Horowitz and his current slate of Officers including: Eric Sandler, Vice President; Holley Akers, Treasurer; and Manny Franco, Secretary.

Several Awards were presented to FWA members for their service and dedication to our organization.  Brad Smith and Nicolette Tsambis received the “Above and Beyond” Award for their work in the One-time change case of City of Bartow v. Flores.  Dennis Smejkal and Michael Winer received the “Above and Beyond” Award for their work in the “arising out of” case of Soya v. Health First, Inc.   Michael Srebnick received the Christopher J. Smith CAEL Listserv MVP Award.   Finally, Paul Anderson was presented with the David H. Levine Outstanding Leadership Award.

Kudos to Educational Committee co-Charis Domenic Celeste and Eric Sandler for making this year’s FWA Educational Conference a success once again.  Save the date for next year’s 33rd Annual Educational Conference which will take place on June 8-9, 2023, at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort.
